Introduction to Protists

Introduction

The kingdom Protista consists of primarily aquatic eukaryotic organisms whose has diverse body forms, types of reproduction, modes of nutrition and lifestyles.

All the organisms which are included in Kingdom Protista are called protists.

All protists are eukaryotic and have evolved from prokaryotes.

The other eukaryotic kingdoms such as Plantae, Fungi, Animalia arose from protists in various ways.

The protists are unicellular eukaryotic, colonial or simple multicellular organisms.

Unlike plants and animals, protists do not develop from a blastula or an embryo.

The kingdom protista contains four major groups of eukaryotic organisms which are

Protozoans

Unicellular Algae

Multicellular algae

Slime molds

Oomycotes
